Since the 2016 election and the inauguration, people in Maine have been mobilizing around racial justice and racial equity. Black and other People of Color (PoC) Maine activists have been using the momentum from this mobilization to empower Black people and other People of Color in the state. White Maine activists have been affirming their anti-racist commitments by supporting Black and PoC initiatives and joining White, anti-racist organizations. Ideally, the energy from this mobilization will be transformed into grassroots efforts that will create lasting change for Black people and People of Color living in Maine. This year’s Changing Maine gathering will build upon this energy.
