Beginner - Have never skated before, do not know how to roller skate.

Rookie - Learning the skills required for a derby context. In the process of learning how to be stable on skates, crossovers, skating in close quarters (but not touching) other skaters, to fall and get back up safely, and can stop in a safe manner.

C-Level - Able to stop quickly, safely, and consistently; can vary speeds and direction somewhat; ready/willing to learn derby-specific skills. Ready or willing to try to take light contact and/or make attempts at pushing a wall. Ready to try to skate in formations with other skaters and to learn to work together in group efforts such as walls.

B-Level - Able to take most impact, comfortable with changing speeds/directions, understand most basics of gameplay. Able or willing to try to apply these skills in scrimmages or scrimmage scenarios. Would still benefit from coaching on individual skills and techniques, still learning common derby strategy. Feel comfortable skating against skaters of a similar skill level.

A-Level - Skaters feel safe and comfortable scrimmaging, have plenty of scrimmage experience. Skaters can execute most skating skills. Have solid understanding of game play and common strategy. A-level skaters should be able to try to implement skills and strategies at full speed in a competitive game environment

AA-Level - feel comfortable scrimmaging with and against all levels of players, including from WFTDA or JRDA Division I-ranked teams. Extensive game experience. Mastered high-level skating skills. Need minimal direction at practices as they have a solid understanding of all derby skills and strategy. Can execute complex and evolving derby strategies requiring advanced teamwork skills.
