This helpline volunteer registration form will take approximately 15 minutes for you to complete. You can save your progress and return to it, but the form will close on the 28th of January at 9am, a few days before volunteer training.
Our volunteers say that their time with Nightline is fun, challenging, fits easily around uni life, and invaluable experience for their professional development. You don't need any prior experience to apply – just enthusiasm and the willingness to help other students’ mental health. We value passion over everything else: we provide extensive training, but you need to have the drive to show up to support your community.
Lots of our volunteers have first- or second-hand experience with mental health struggles and we warmly welcome this expertise, but as receiving calls can be difficult we recommend that applicants who have experienced a significant or traumatic mental health situation within the past 6 months consider their application carefully.
We have a comfy office, call-room and kitchen for volunteers in a private Zone 1 London location. The majority of volunteers do shifts in-person here, but we also do take a smaller number of applications from volunteers who can only work remotely. We encourage in particular those who live outside London’s M25, those with caring responsibilities, or those who cannot walk upstairs unassisted to apply for those places. Please note that we cannot accept volunteering applications from those who permanently live outside of the UK.
Training will take place in-person in London:
- Saturday 31st January 10am-5pm
- Sunday 1st February 10am-5pm
- Saturday 7th of February 10am-5pm
Please save these dates in your diary now. You must attend all sessions to volunteer for London Nightline. If there is a reason, such as observance of religious practices or otherwise previous engagements, that you would not be able to attend any of the sessions, please email london@nightline.org.uk
We reserve the right to perform a volunteer DBS check. If we do this, we will cover the cost.
We ask for volunteers to complete at least 4 shifts per term, and shifts can be booked flexibly based on individuals’ personal availability. Please note that this is a volunteer role, and is therefore unpaid, however volunteers can claim any reasonable expenses (such as public transport to shifts) upon presentation of a valid receipt. We have provided as much information as possible here and on our website, and any further queries will be answered during training.
Thank you again,
Team Nightline
