Our sport and its coaches teach skills and strategy, and contribute to building character in youth. The future of our sport lies with great coaches and, as such, we are committed to recruiting, developing and mentoring the best coaches available and to ensuring they deliver programming that is fair, safe, effective and open to everyone.
Sackville Minor Basketball Association is working to become verified with Canada Basketball under their new verification program. It is a priority to establish our club as a provincial and national leader in the area of Safe Sport, as well as to demonstrate our commitment to excellence and best practices in organizational leadership. This work will allow us to drive positive changes and to provide the best possible experience for our entire membership including our coaches, our players and their families. This means that all persons interested in volunteering for Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions with SMBA will be REQUIRED to complete the following training if they do not already have it (at no cost to the volunteer coach) prior to the season starting:
1. NCCP Safe Sport
2. NCCP Mental Health In Sport
3. NCCP Emergency Action Plans
4. NCCP Rule of Two
All coaches of female teams are also required to complete the 'Keeping Girls In Sport' module.
Whether a brand new coach or a returning coach with Sackville Storm, the association will be here to support and provide you with the tools needed to help you develop along your coaching journey. Coaches will be asked to register for RAMP, and we will be confirming the appropriate background checks (CRC and Child Abuse Registry Check), as well as providing the tools for coaches to enhance their knowledge and training in the priority areas.
We thank you for your interest in being such an important part of the Sackville Storm family and are looking forward to a year where our coaching community is stronger than ever.
