We are getting ready for the 2/25 & 2/26 CURB Lobby Days and Legislative Hearings on the conditions in the Segregated Housing Units. We need your help to organize members in your organizations to join us for these two important days. We would like to encourage as much representation from different CURB member groups as possible, so please consider sending at least one rep from your group.
The Hearing on Monday, Feb. 25th is a Legislative Review of what CDCR has implemented in terms of new SHU step-down policies. This is an opportunity to hear from experts on segregated housing, an important space for public comment especially from people who have a loved one in the SHU. Several CURB member groups have been leading this work, attending the hearing and rally will be a great opportunity to show solidarity to people in the SHU.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26th we will be holding our first big lobby day in 2013. We will be meeting several new legislators and introducing them to our Coalition. We also be pushing a series of CURB priority bills before they head to their first legislative committee.
CURB has budgeted $2,000 to help reimburse members for the travel costs to Sacramento. We will be prioritizing reimbursing travel expenses for people who can attend both days, are active members of a CURB organization, are traveling from the furthest distance, carpooling, etc. Give that we have a limited budget for travel, please confirm that CURB can cover your travel expenses before you book a plane ticket.
Please RSVP by Friday, Feb. 15th! If you have any other questions, or want to help with planning please contact Diana Zuniga at firstname.lastname@example.org or 213-864-8931. More information coming soon!
