I'm Kendall Oliver, a current sophomore at Yale, and I'm excited to serve as your Presidential Cabinet Director for the 2018 Yale Model Congress conference! I'm originally from Orlando, Florida, and while I never did Model Congress in high school, I very much enjoyed being a Committee Chair at last year's Conference.
As you probably know, the YMC Presidential Cabinet is a chance for 21 skilled debaters to hone their craft in the context of an immersive (and fun!) simulation of a real-life presidential cabinet. I'll probably have difficult decisions to make when selecting Cabinet members; ideal candidates will be seniors, juniors, and exceptional sophomores who have attended multiple Model Congress sessions, at Yale or elsewhere. However, all interested students are welcome to apply!
If you're interested in serving on the President Cabinet at this year's YMC Conference, please fill out this form no later than October 25, 2018. If you have any particular questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at <firstname.lastname@example.org>.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you in November!
We'll make our best effort to ensure that if you're selected for the Presidential Cabinet, you'll receive one of your top choices. However, we cannot guarantee this. If you're selected for the Presidential Cabinet, you'll be asked to write a 3-5 page policy memo concerning your Cabinet department prior to the Conference. I'll send out more information once positions have been assigned!
If you have any further questions, please contact me at <email@example.com>!
1. Your name, school, grade level, and phone number. I will primarily contact you at the e-mail address from which you send your Presidential Candidacy Application. If you would like me to contact you at an alternate e-mail address or prefer to be contacted by call, text, etc., please indicate this in your response.
2. (200-300 words total) What is your previous Model Congress experience (at Yale or elsewhere)? What is your favorite thing about Model Congress?
3. (300-500 words total) Why do you want to be the President of the 2018 Yale Model Congress? In your response, please include an example of a time when you demonstrated leadership capabilities.
4. (300-500 words total) What are your core political beliefs? What has shaped these beliefs?
I will review your applications and select three (3) candidates as Presidential Finalists. Finalists will be notified of additional requirements and obligations upon selection. They will then compete in the Presidential Election, to be held during the YMC 2018 Opening Ceremonies on Friday, November 30, 2018. In the Presidential Election, the Finalist who receives the most votes will become the President. The second-place finisher will become the Vice President, and the third-place finisher will become the Head of the Office of Budget and Management. This is a change from the years past and will require that each of the potential presidential candidates submit a proposal for the OBM position.
