Leandro Amicus Brief - Friends of Public Schools
North Carolina is further now from meeting its constitutional obligation to provide all children with a sound basic education than it was in 1997. The challenges to families and educators due to continued underfunding were made even more clear during the course of the pandemic. We now have a historic opportunity to set a new course for North Carolina children and our state.
Leaders at the North Carolina Justice Center are working with attorneys at Brooks Pierce to put together an amicus brief (with research assistance from the Public School Forum and community input from the Every Child NC Coalition) that outlines the status of educational funding in North Carolina and the opportunity to improve North Carolina’s public education system that we have before us. Additionally, the brief focuses on the importance that these targeted investments will have for our educational system, particularly for disadvantaged students.
