Request to Join the LA Fire Community Slack
Welcome to the 2025 LA Fire Community Slack, a central organized hub of focused resources, expertise, and meaningful ongoing community support.  This community is limited to those impacted by the Los Angeles fire, as well as past fire survivors, disaster recovery experts and advocates providing free advice, community support organizations, and emergency responders. Extreme Weather Survivors is a project of Tides Center and is a non-profit organization creating a nationwide network of people harmed by extreme weather, and is proud to provide this lifeline for the LA Fire community.

Our primary goal is to foster a community for those directly impacted by the LA Fire to support one another and have direct access to experts and trauma-informed resources.

If you have not been directly impacted and are interested in helping from afar, please see this list of groups who are helping distribute aid and resources on the ground: https://www.fireaid.info/.  Your support is so appreciated, but unfortunately this community is only for disaster survivors and disaster and recovery experts.

Please share a bit about yourself below, including address, if you would like to join the LA Fire Community Slack and receive email and text updates from Extreme Weather Survivors.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

As a member of this community:

  1. We commit to being kind and communicating with respect. We’re all going through it. We understand that hate speech, bullying, offensive/discriminatory language or images, or any sort of personal attacks will lead to immediate consequences, including potential suspension or removal from the group.
  2. We will exercise patience and understanding. We understand that people may ask the same questions repeatedly or may challenge us with a different point of view. We acknowledge that we don’t know what we don’t know and that we all have different points of learning. When we feel our emotions high we will step away to cool off before responding.
  3. We will support, seek knowledge and share our stories with each other. We acknowledge that no two disasters are the same, nor that the impacts on individuals is the same. We believe that the lived experiences of us all are shaped by our various identities that may help or hurt our access to resources. We believe that we can only help each other by understanding our commonalities and our differences in order to work together to support and share information.
  4. We are respectful of everyone’s privacy. Many of us will be sharing personal experiences in this group. Although no one outside of the group can see who is in the group or what is posted on this page, as with all social media, participants are encouraged to only post content they would be comfortable about being posted publicly. Extreme Weather Survivors will always ask permission before sharing externally anything said in this group.
  5. Be mindful of sharing graphic information. When sharing graphic information and/or images of a disaster, please include a trigger warning at the top of your post or in our comments if they include graphic descriptions or photos of how you or your loved ones were impacted by unnatural weather disasters.
  6. This is not a place to post GoFundMe pages, "wishlists," or solicitations of any kind. These tools provide valuable help and we encourage you to use and contribute to them in other spaces.  However, due to the scale of impact and to avoid scams, there will be no tolerance for these kinds of posts.
  7. We acknowledge that admins and moderators reserve the right to temporarily suspend commenting, remove posts or comments, and remove users who violate the terms of use on this page or elsewhere.
