Thank you for your interest in becoming a Nature Steward with Nature Society Singapore (NSS).

The Nature Stewards Programme is intended for volunteers who wish to develop their knowledge and skills while making an ongoing contribution to NSS's nature education, outreach and conservation work.

This is not simply a training course. Following completion of the programme, Nature Stewards are expected to remain actively involved with NSS and to support at least one NSS nature walk every two months.

Nature Stewards are also encouraged to contribute to NSS conservation, citizen science, outreach and other volunteer activities according to their interests and availability.

There are 20 places available for this intake. Selection will be based on applicants' motivation, availability, commitment, suitability for the role and potential to contribute to NSS beyond the training programme.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Participate in a structured training programme covering local biodiversity, conservation challenges, and engagement strategies as well as NSS’ past achievements and current conservation concerns, projects and campaigns.

• Support guided walks and outreach activities for the public, members, schools, and corporate partners.

• Assist in the facilitation of nature-based events, such as coastal and forest clean-ups, when needed.

• Champion conservation by sharing your learnings and inspiring responsible action within your community of participants.

• Collaborate with experienced volunteers and mentors across our Special Interest Groups (e.g. Bird Group, Butterfly & Insect Group, Marine Conservation Group, Plant Group, and Vertebrate Study Group)

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for individuals who are:

• Passionate about nature, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.

• Willing to commit time to learning to develop expertise in local biodiversity and habitats.

• Willing to volunteer to help co-lead nature walks and/or other hands-on activities at least once every 2 months.

• Curious and open to gaining new knowledge and perspectives on conservation issues.

• Comfortable interacting with the public and working in a team.

• Responsible, proactive, and able to follow through on assigned tasks.

• Aged 17 and above (students, working professionals, and retirees are welcome)

Prior experience in conservation or outreach is not required — training will be provided.

$500 per person

Attendance
A min. of 80% attendance for trainees to graduate from the course.
