1) Assist in a Classroom! Seeking committed people who are excited to work directly with students! You will be paired with a classroom based on your interests and availability and the teacher’s needs. Roles vary by room but generally classroom volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with students who need extra support on reading, writing and/or math. The teacher will provide instructions and necessary materials. Time commitment: Starting at an hour per week.
2) Revive Our Library! J.B. Kelly needs volunteers to help keep the library accessible for class use! We have a full library, but no librarian, so we need volunteers to help keep library up and running. We are looking for volunteers to work with students in the library when classes come in, either reading with or to students, leading activities, or just helping students locate books. Additional tasks will include checking in and re-shelving books that have been borrowed by classes. Teachers will always be present. The lead library volunteers will orient you to the library and help you prepare to work with classes.
3) Kelly needs volunteers to lead activities at recess! - Kids need to play! And students are more focused and calm in class when they have fun, structured activities during recess. If you are available any day between 11:00 and 1:30, lend a hand at recess! Recess volunteers lead students in structured activities at recess and support the staff that supervises recess. Time commitment: Flexible in terms of how many hours, but consistency is important.
