I am doing some preliminary work towards re-cataloging Quatrefoil Library’s fiction titles, which has approximately 8,000 titles across the collection. Over the years, various catalogers have used different methods to assign call numbers to books (some more accurate than others), leading to all sorts of inconsistencies: multiple author numbers, differing call number length, etc.

So to that end I am researching different options for a new format for call numbers that is more intuitive and user-friendly for both users and shelvers alike.

This survey will consist of considering eight different book titles, each one followed by three versions of call numbers that might be assigned. Select the option that would be most helpful for you in locating that book, and then (if you wish) record any thoughts you had about why you chose that call number, what you didn’t like about the other options, or an option you wish had been offered.
