The annual Camporee is a weekend-long event in which Scout Troops (and CAP) experience a variety of military and Scouting -based competitions and sites to include: land navigation, first aid, weapons safety and maintenance, zodiac boat race, fire building, military drill, and physical fitness. The Camporee also includes military equipment static displays, mock demonstrations of military operations such as air assault missions with helicopters, a large bonfire, and a military review parade involving the Academy leadership. Curtiss-Wright applied to attend the 2017 Camporee as a CAP unit, and we were accepted! NJ073’s own USMA CDT John Rogacki is sponsoring us this year! We will likely be the ONLY CAP unit among over 250 scouting troops, consisting of over 7000 participants! This will be an excellent opportunity for us to show others what CAP is all about, interact with USMA cadets, and participate in many “cool” activities and challenges. Like Scouting, CAP has similar goals and objectives with regard to their youth programs. So, CAP fits right in. The event starts Friday evening, April 28, 2017, and will conclude mid-afternoon, Sunday, April 30, 2017. We will meet at the Fairfield Red Cross building around 4:30 pm (tentative). We could have multiple departure times, TBD. It’s a camporee, so we will be camping in tents and cooking our own food. More details will follow. You will provide or share a tent, and need a sleeping bag and a mess kit. We will lend you a sleeping bag if you need one. Don’t worry about not having the right gear. We will help you out, so that everyone wanting to attend will be properly equipped. It will be an AWESOME experience!
