Do you support establishing a neighborhood-specific bike rack style to help distinguish First Hill?
Bicycle Security Advisors is recommending to the First Hill Improvement Association that it establish a preferred bike rack that developers would be required to use when installing racks as part of a new development.  BSA is supportive of the "Tofino" rack made by the Woodinville-based rack manufacturer Sportworks. It features two layers of steel and a middle layer of rubber that makes cutting through the rack very difficult for thieves, and their sized appropriately for comfortable and safe locking.  The racks are already commonly used by First Hill and Capitol Hill developers.  The Tofino rack can come in a brushed steel finish or be painted in a variety of colors.  BSA supports the racks being painted with First Hill's adopted primary color of teal/turquoise, which it has used for the "pavement-to-parks" projects and the recent I-5 columns painting.  Even if the First Hill Improvement Association adopted a preferred rack for developers, SDOT would still install its own standard racks unless FHIA or another organization paid the difference in cost.
