Alternative Breaks Participant Application: Spring 2018
Alternative Breaks (AB) Participants attend a one-week, service-learning trip to one of two destinations with a social issue focus. Spring break trips are: South Texas (The State of Immigration) and Austin, TX (Serving the Community Outside UT). Service-learning involves transformative learning, consistent reflection, and meaningful community service in order to contribute to social justice initiatives.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on WEDNESDAY, December 20.

Selected finalists will be notified by Wednesday, January 3rd of the invitation to attend an interview.

If accepted, participants agree to abide by all UT and AB policies and procedures, and uphold the five core values of AB: Learning, Community, Service, Simplicity and Active Citizenship.

In addition, selected participants must understand the trip fee and attend scheduled fundraising activities and spring meetings. The spring meetings will be every Sunday 5:00-7:00 PM starting January 28th and ending March 4th. Upon your return from Spring Break, there will be a "Re-Orientation" Meeting on Sunday, March 25th. The events above are mandatory, and your attendance will determine your eligibility in the program.

The total program cost per person to attend is:
---- Austin, TX: Serving the Community Outside UT - Spring Break March 10th-17th: $200

Also if accepted as an AB Participant, a $50 non-refundable deposit counting toward this cost must be made at Orientation, date TBD via money order, cashier's check or personal checks (no cash). Payment must be made out to "UT-Austin", and delivered to Wayne Holstine, Program Coordinator.

Individual fundraising training and events will aim to offset costs for each participant.
