Sexual Assault Awareness Month Conference 2022
Please join us for our third annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month Conference: Prevention at the Intersections. A four week virtual series featuring:

claire barrera: Culturally Responsive Prevention Education; This panel will explore the creative strategies that culturally specific prevention programs use to empower communities.  We will speak with workers from the Native American Youth and Family Center, El Programa Hispano's UNICA, Self Enhancement Inc and Russian Oregon Social Services about the inherent cultural tools their communities utilize to end violence.  We will discuss specific curriculum adaptations and tools for facilitating meaningful change.

Courtney Dunkerton: NCCASA Human Trafficking Advocacy and Prevention from a Public Health Framework: Our Story ; Human trafficking prevention has at times been framed primarily as a criminal justice priority or been siloed from other forms of violence prevention. As experts in sexual violence prevention, NCCASA recognizes sex trafficking as a form of sexual violence and the connection of sexual violence to all forms of human trafficking. We see the value of a public health approach to violence prevention that incorporates our social justice lens. NCCASA is pleased to present our Human Trafficking Prevention Toolkit. In this toolkit, you'll find our Human Trafficking Prevention Overview (link to infographic), an overview of what human trafficking is and the public health approach to violence prevention, an exploration of the historical context that informs our current frameworks and gaps, tips for effective upstream prevention, and strategies for incorporating a harm reduction lens into your human trafficking prevention work, as well as critical considerations in selecting a prevention strategy.

Sally Blackwood and Danise Elijah: The Dynamics of Child Sexual Abuse; There are many commonalities between Sexual Assault and Child Sexual Abuse. What dynamics seperate the two? Why does it matter? Join CARES Northwest staff in exploring these similar yet different forms of sexual violence. Participants will explore the unique dynamics of Child Sexual Abuse, particularly in regards to the interplay of brain development, power differences, and emotional boundary manipulation/gaslighting. Time will also be spent discussing messaging about Mandatory Reporting.

Erin Fairchild: It's All Connected: Intersectional Approaches to Preventing Violence Before it Occurs; In this trauma & equity informed workshop we will explore how interpersonal violence, community violence, and systemic violence have related root causes - and not to simply admire the complexity of the problem (which can leave us feeling overwhelmed and powerless). Instead, we will leave inspired to advocate for, as a movement, policies and approaches that speak truth to power, promote environments where safety is achievable, and create collective well-being for violence free communities where everyone gets to thrive.
