RI - Rename Columbus Day to Indigenous People's Day
At least eight states, 10 universities, and more than 130 cities across 34 states now observe Indigenous Peoples Day as an alternative to the federally recognized Columbus Day, which glorifies the mistreatment and colonization of Native Americans.

Let's make sure that this is the last Columbus Day we celebrate in Rhode Island. Indigenous People's Day will mark our 2020 calendar.

Indigenous peoples are among the first to face the direct consequences of climate change, due to their dependence upon, and close relationship, with the environment and its resources. Climate change exacerbates the difficulties already faced by indigenous communities including political and economic marginalization, loss of land and resources, human rights violations, discrimination and unemployment. Sunrise Movement is working to fight climate change, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuels on our politics, and elect leaders who will stand up for the health and wellbeing of ALL people. Would you like to get involved with a local Sunrise hub? More info can be found at sunrisemovement.org/hubs *
