Home Hospitality Questionnaire
Hello! We are so grateful that you are interested in becoming a home hospitality host for international visitors in our International Visitor Leadership Program. This is a great opportunity to meet individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, and to also share more from your own life here in New Hampshire. Non-formal conversations over a meal with local community members always provide additional insights to visitors and hosts to be able to gain first-hand understanding of each other's cultures.
Here are a few questions we'd like for you to think about:
- Are you interested in becoming a global citizen?
-Do you wish to have opportunities to meet and connect with individuals from different countries?
- Would you like to provide opportunities for yourself, family and/or friends to become involved in volunteering in the local community?
- Do you like to host individuals in your home?
- Do you love to cook? Or, do you love to eat?
- Do you have a place in your home (home, duplex, apartment, condo, dorm, community center) where you feel comfortable to host guests for an informal conversation/meal?
*If you have answered yes to a few of these questions, we'd love to learn more about you below!
We would also like to note: hosting a meal for visitors does not need to be as complicated as one might think! You do not need to spend tons of money to provide a meal, you do not need to have a large home to host, and we do not expect our HH volunteers to host everyone in one IVLP group. We typically break groups up into 2-3 visitors per home (dependent on home hosts preferences) to provide opportunities for more intimate conversations and to ensure hosts are not overwhelmed by the need to host a large number of people. We always make sure that hosts have all of the information needed to have a great time! We provide each host with the following information: the countries where guests are from and the languages they speak (if they do not speak English they will also have a liaison interpreter for communicate support), their professional background, and any dietary restrictions or religious considerations.
