Charles P. Ruch Award for Excellence in Teaching
The Charles P. Ruch Award for Excellence in Teaching was established by the School of Education in honor of Dr. Ruch, who served as Dean of the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1977 to 1985, and as Provost of the University from 1986 to 1992. While Dr. Ruch valued all three traditional university faculty roles of teaching, scholarship, and service, he emphasized excellence in teaching as the primary role of the faculty of the School of Education.
