hello dear friends!
lake words is casting a spell for a vital and robust great salt lake - one part of the project is widely distributing the books and connecting different people and watersheds.
we want to send you books in the mail! if you know people in your community who would resonate, put down their address or order them a copy to give to them - don't be shy, we just printed several hundred copies!
please accept this offering as a gift. the financial flow of the project allows us to offer the books freely.
this flow comes from selling the books to local bookstores, and from generous offerings of people who encounter the book. if you are called to support with cash it is suuuuper helpful and allows us to keep this project going - we are currently raising funds to buy more toner and paper, which will enable our next print run.
if you're able to send a few dollars to cover shipping, that is very appreciated! the venmo is @lakewords (last 4 digits of the phone number are 7716). please write 'snail mail' in the transaction so we can track.
lake words is committed to the land back movement here and everywhere. any profit we receive is distributed as follows:
25% goes to
Esims for Gaza 50% goes towards sustaining the the
lake words project.
thank you thank you thank you for your support!
we can't wait to fill your mailbox with magic!
(a note on shipping: we are a tiny project of a few mysterious queers and we do all of this ourselves and for zero dollars. one of the aims of lake words is to co-create the world we want to live in, and to that end we strive to keep this project wildly within capacity - we want it to feel delightful, not rushed or pressured. we will ship the books in batches as our capacity and bookmaking allows. it may be a month or five between shipments! we like to think this is a fun mystery of when you'll receive this delicious offering in the mail. if you'd like to receive your books sooner than a mystery, send us an email (lakewords@proton.me) and we'll see what we can do!)
last note: this form asks how many copies of volume 1 and how many copies of volume 2 you would like. if you’re unfamiliar with the project, here is an overview of each:
vol 1- quarter page, small zine, with a single author. a voice of holy outrage. written during a 40-day vigil at the lake during the 2022 legislative session. volume 1 came together as the author was uncovering precisely how, and for what profit-driven reasons, the lake is being murdered. some have termed it “investigative poetry.”
vol 2- half page zine anthology with work from more than a dozen artists around the watershed. includes poetry, speculative fiction, photography, and more. it finds kinship with everyone who has ever wondered what we will do if the lake dries up. we call volume 2 a queer, abolitionist love letter to the great salt lake.
