Petition for a Dred Scott Commemorative Postage Stamp
This year is the 160th Anniversary of the Dred Scott Decision of 1857. That decision was a major legal event and a catalyst that contributed to the Civil War. The decision declared that Dred Scott could not be free because he was not a citizen. The 14th Amendment, also called the Dred Scott Amendment, granted citizenship to all born or naturalized here and was intended to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court Decision on July 9, 1868. The Foundation is requesting a commemorative stamp to recognize and remember the heritage of this amendment by issuing stamp with the likeness of the man, Dred Scott. We need the support of thousands of people who would like to see this happen.
