Equality in Schools

Ever since the talk on equality, which we heard on women’s day, there have been lots of discussions around the school about whether single or mixed-sex schools are better. (1..........) I’ve heard a lot of people saying it would be better for girls (2..........) boys to study separately, (3...........) mixed-sex classrooms are definitely the better option. Here’s why:

(4..........), girls and boys don’t always have a negative influence on each other. (5...........) the opposite is often true: having girls in the classroom can have a really calming effect on boys, and the sense of competition boys bring to the classroom can encourage girls to make more of an effort with their studies.

(6..........), aren’t schools supposed to help us prepare for working life? It goes without saying that our future workplaces are unlikely to separate us along gender lines (7..........) where’s the sense in keeping us apart now? Surely we need to practice working with members of the opposite sex today (8..........) we’re going to be any good at it in the future.

(9.........), mixed-sex classrooms aren’t going to please everyone all the time, (10..........) it’s important we learn how to work together, (11..........) we’ll be doing it for a long time to come.
