Philosophy 7 Fall 2025 - Student Evaluation
Hi Everyone,

Well... we've been grading your work all quarter.  It's time for you to grade ours!  The point of this evaluation is to figure out how the class can be better for next year's students.

This form should take you about 10 minutes to fill out.   Please be honest--- only honest answers are actually helpful to me.   Also, all responses are anonymous (you didn't even log in).  No questions are obligatory.

I will NOT look at the responses to this survey until AFTER final grades are submitted.

Also: this is not the official university evaluation, and it is not reported to the university.  The official course evaluation is accessed through MyUCLA. Please fill out both.

Thank you!

Class time...  there was a certain amount of discussion in class--- how was this?
Clear selection
Discussion in class...   tends to be lead by the same 30 or so people from week to week.  This is totally fine--- many people simply don't like speaking in public, I get it.  But I would like to hear more from the other 300+ of you.   Any tips or brainstorms about how I might get more people to feel comfortable jumping into the discussion?
Class...  Do you actually attend lecture? (Be honest, this is anonymous!)

The class was divided into three units. Which did you find MOST interesting?
The class was divided into three units.  Which did you find LEAST interesting?
There are many topics we touched on very briefly, but didn't get into much detail about.  Which of these would you like to see more of?  (Given that there is only finite time...)
Grade... what grade do you estimate you're going to get for this course?
I'm asking this because I want to know if there is a correlation between attending lecture and how well you do in the course.   If there is no relationship there, then there is a lot less reason for me to try to enforce attending lectures and sections.

Gender + Race in the Classroom
Everyone is susceptible to unconscious prejudices and associations.  Even your otherwise perfect teachers.   The point of the following questions is to ask you, as more objective observers, whether such biases are affecting our teaching style.
Were all genders treated with equal respect--- and given equal opportunities--- in LECTURE?
Clear selection
Were people of different racial or cultural groups treated with equal respect--- and given equal opportunities--- in LECTURE?

If you answered less than "7" for either of the last two questions, would you care to elaborate?  Provide specific examples?  Do you have any constructive suggestions?
