ISOcolLAB Community Survey
ISOcolLAB (collaborations in isolation) is a new collaborative artist initiative, that responds to the difficult and changed work conditions as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Local artists, Rolando Garay Matziaris and Alison Langley, one of ISOcolLAB’s five artist pairs, are interested in the changing face of the City of Maribyrnong. They will be exploring the historical and potential alternative future uses for well known local sites, earmarked for strategic redevelopment.

We are inviting members of the Maribyrnong and wider community to participate in a survey to provide open-ended ideas for alternative uses of four selected sites.

Participants are asked to provide responses with ways that they would like to see or envisage these spaces used for in future development if they themselves were to have control. Allowing them to become an active participant in the changing face of their local landscape.

Survey results will be used in order to inform and assist the pair with the development of their artwork.

Funded by the City of Maribyrnong, Arts and Culture 'Together Apart Rapid Relief Fund' and facilitated by Five Walls online, ISOcolLAB is a local, collaborative artist residency that takes place entirely online, with the resulting artworks to be shown in an exhibition at Five Walls Gallery in Footscray in late 2020/ early 2021.

What ideas do you have for use of the following local sites? Imaginative responses are encouraged! Please respond to at least one of the four potential spaces below.
Little Saigon Market - Footscray  https://goo.gl/maps/UYPqk9nLYWeuD35R7    A fault in an electrical switchboard at the Little Saigon Market caused the fire that gutted the Footscray institution in December 2016. Maribyrnong Council granted a 12-month extension to the site’s owners in 2018 on a planning permit to build two apartment towers at the site. Progress remains slow and it is unclear whether construction will begin. What are your suggestions for the use of the former Little Saigon Market site?

Forges Department Store - Footscray  https://goo.gl/maps/8NoAARsAqxtWWHG7A                       The Forges department store in Footscray opened in 1898, and it has been vacant since November 2009 after closing its doors. A planning application was lodged with Maribyrnong Council in 2016, however,  since the initial proposals, no further information can be found regarding this re-development. What are your suggestions for the use of the former Forges department store?

Bradmill Cotton Mills - Yarraville https://goo.gl/maps/fnLT4v81vhRs6AFh8                         The site of the former Bradmill Cotton Mills/ Davies Coop located at 341-351 Francis Street in Yarraville, stretches across a massive 24 hectares from Francis Street through to Fogarty Street. The Bradmill factory site was in operation until 2005 and some of the original buildings, including the multi storey boiler house constructed in the 1950s, still remain.  The site was originally slated to become a mini suburb with up to 1500 dwellings and retail spaces, but currently sits abandoned. What are your suggestions for the use of the former Bradmill factory site?

Midway and Phillip Migrant Hostel - Maidstone  https://goo.gl/maps/bjYxZddmBa4Vf9i28                 The centre was originally opened in 1966, as the Maribyrnong Migrant Hostel, then later the Midway (Migrant) Hostel in the late 1960s. Located on the corner of Williamson and Hampstead Roads, the site has accommodated migrants from almost every national group that has arrived in Australia since World War II. Since the centre's closure it was used as student accommodation by Victoria University up until 2015.                                                                        What are your suggestions for the use of the former Midway and Phillip Migrant Hostel site?
