Thanks so much for indicating your interest in hosting a Togetherness: QTBIPOC Community Gathering! These gatherings are a collaboration between the Spectrum Center and MESA that center Queer and Transgender Black/Indigenous/People of Color (QTBIPOC). The goal is to form community at U-M and connect students with individuals in the U-M, A2, and Ypsi areas, as well as farther out with digital offerings. This academic year, we are hoping to split the events evenly into in-person and virtual offerings - three of each - but we will take host preference and comfort level as the priority. Please note we are looking for those outside of the traditional undergraduate / graduate student experience and age range. Working professionals finishing or continuing their education or those working on a second/third/etc degree are welcome to host.
These have historically taken on the form of a communal dinner, and we're hoping to return to that format for our in-person gatherings, but we do not have clear guidance on food availability and restrictions. Whether in-person or virtual, host commitment / responsibilities include a ~45-minute meeting at some point prior to the event, preparing informal material about your work or topic of interest of yours, the event itself (which is usually an hour to an hour and a half), and having a short post-event meeting with the organizers some time after the event.
New for Fall 2021, we are currently able to offer $60 in compensation for hosts. We will discuss payment after you confirm that you're still available for a particular month we'd like you to host in.
If this sounds appealing to you, we'd love to consider you as a host! If you have questions please contact email@example.com
