Following Up on the Accountability at University Theatre Programs
This survey is to gather information for an American Theatre Magazine article that is a follow-up to the previously published AT article, “When the Students Have Notes for the Teachers”, which highlights the public letters and call to action statements written to university drama departments this past summer from students and alumni of various universities/drama departments speaking up about racism they experienced.

This upcoming follow-up article will explore what has happened since the release of the statements last year, including the impacts of the statement, the process in collaborating with/communicating with administration, and any changes that have been or will be implemented. The aim is to take a deeper look at the conversations currently happening behind closed doors that aim to move BFA programs towards more equitable and anti-racist education.

In order to do that, this survey was created to gain as much information and as many experiences as possible. We want to hear specifically from any student and/or alumni organizers who previously participated in the creation of a letter or call to action statement to their university’s drama department addressing racism, giving testimonies of experiences with racism, actionable steps or demands the department should take, etc. Please note that your responses could potentially be used for this American Theatre Magazine article and you could be quoted. You are free to remain anonymous, as giving your name is optional, however we will be using the information you provide as research/personal accounts for the article.

If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to email: theciaradiane@gmail.com.
