Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. Science Olympiad application
(Please fill out an application for each student participating)

National Science Olympiad limits middle school and high school homeschool teams to students that reside in two contiguous counties. No geographic rules exist for the Science Olympiad elementary program. Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. resides in Arapahoe county. We can create middle school and high school teams that border Arapahoe county. In the metro area, this includes Denver, Jefferson, Adams, and Douglas counties. If you and your student reside in a county that borders Arapahoe county, we will attempt to put your child on a team, but we may be not be able to accommodate your student based on Science Olympiad rules. Please contact us with questions prior to filling out the application.

Required
It is vital for all parents to know that a student enrolled in a full-time educational program (through a public/private school etc.) or a full-time online program (Connections/K12, etc.) is not eligible to compete in the Middle or High School Science Olympiad teams. The best question to ask would be “Where will your child receive their diploma? If it is from you, the parent, then your child is eligible to be on this team. If you are signing up for only the elementary classes, this does not apply. Please mark that you have or have not read and understood the above statements (Mark Not Applicable if student is in Elementary Program): *
Is the student homeschooled primarily outside of a school setting? *
Is the student part of any online program in a full-time capacity? *
Has a homeschool Notice of Intent been filed for the student for the coming school year? *

Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. would like to schedule several field trips throughout the year to give students a deeper experience with science. For instance, a tour with the National Center for Atmospheric Research's Mesa Laboratory and Visitor Center up in Boulder would give students interested in meteorology a chance to see recent research in that field. All students could attend, but it would offer a deeper level of understanding to those participating in the Science Olympiad Meteorology event. Are you interested in attending any field trips? (All field trips would require a parent/guardian driving their own students. Any fees associated with the field trip would be paid by the student's parent/guardian.) *
Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. is a non-profit organization. We will need volunteers, especially at competitions. Is the parent/guardian willing to volunteer? *
The membership fees for all participants will be $50/year. Middle School and High School Students will have partners they will be studying with for the year. These study sessions will occur out of club meetings. We highly recommend that study sessions occur in a public setting or virtually under the guidance of the parents/guardians. A background check is a vital step in ensuring that all students remain safe. Front Range Science and Technology, Inc. requires the background check for the parents/guardians of middle and high school participants in order for their student(s) to participate. In addition, any adults volunteering at competitive events will be required to do a background check if they have not already done so. After the application process, you will receive information from Verified Volunteers/Sterling Talent Solutions. The background check must be completed before events are assigned to the student. The annual membership does not include the cost of any materials your student may need preparing for their events. The annual membership does not include the cost of participating in additional Science Olympiad invitational events that may occur during the year. The annual membership also does not include the cost of traveling to or attending the state or national Science Olympiad competitions. All costs associated with preparing for and competing in Science Olympiad competitions are the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian of the participating student. Parent/Guardian participation is required for your student to get the most out of their experience with Science Olympiad. Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. will coach your student during their time participating in the middle or high school Science Olympiad team. However, it is the primary responsibility of the parent/guardian and the student to obtain materials for use in studying/building for their assigned events. It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to teach any needed information/skills to their student. Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. is not responsible for any actual teaching to participants. The Head Coach will offer advice when asked, but the organization is not responsible for your student's education or performance. Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. will attempt to accommodate everyone in their preferences for events for the Science Olympiad competitions. However, there may be instances where a student may or may not receive their first choice for an event, due to restrictions on the number of people who may participate from a given team in each event. For example, two students from the high school team are allowed to participate in the Anatomy and Physiology event, so if there are six students who want to participate, it will be up to the discretion of the head coach to decide who competes in the event. The club will try to take all factors into consideration when making these decisions, but cannot guarantee that everyone will receive all of their first choices. There are other limitations on team formation due to Science Olympiad rules which will need to be followed if and when these issues come up. Front Range Science and Technology Club, Inc. will notify you once the first part of your application has been processed. You will be notified and sent the second part of the application. A Code of Conduct form, a Medical Release form, a Release From Liability Form and a membership notification will be sent to all new members and the parents/guardians to fill out and sign. Membership applications must be completed in order to participate. Please mark whether or not you have read and understood the information above. *
