There are many ways for you to help our school communities! Completing this form is only a show of interest. It helps the PTA gauge what programs we can offer or not depending on our volunteer strength. We will contact you with more information about how to plug in. To volunteer solely in Amharic or Spanish, please contact pbes.pta@gmail.com for PBES or vp@tpespta.net for TPES, and we will follow up in your preferred language.

1. For TPES, please check all the ONE TIME or OCCASIONAL volunteer opportunities you have interest in:

Garden and/or atrium beautification (including TPES Garden Work Day 9/10 @ 10am and/or donations of plants)

Book Fair (February)

Readathon (March)

Staff appreciation (deliver meal, coffee, etc.)

School Fun Mornings - fall, winter, spring (supervise fun activity stations so teachers can prep reading/math together as grade level team)

Lunch and/or recess volunteers (K: 12:05 – 1:15; 1st: 11:30-12:40; 2nd: 12:50-2)

2. For TPES, please check all the REGULAR (weekly/biweekly/monthly) volunteer opportunities you have interest in:

(PBES families skip to Question #4)

Classroom volunteer (work with classroom teachers, often during reading or math centers; can include cutting lamination, decorating bulletin boards, etc.)

Enrichment reading groups (coordinated by Ms. Bozel, TPES Reading Specialist, work with small group of students who would benefit from additional enrichment)

Lunch and/or recess volunteers (K: 12:05 – 1:15; 1st: 11:30-12:40; 2nd: 12:50-2) While this can be one-time, consistency is beneficial!

Outdoor lunch option: If we have enough parent volunteers (we are 70% the way there), we can host optional outdoor lunch for families who opt-in. This is separate and/or in addition to indoor lunch/recess volunteers

Health and Wellness Committee (current projects include atrium and Teacher Wellness Room)

Garden Committee (watering, planting, weeding, etc.)

Room Parent (be the point person for your class's teacher and families, coordinating teacher gifts, play dates, etc. In the comments below, please note your child's teachers)

3. TPES PTA is still in need of the following volunteer leadership roles. Please indicate if you have interest to help!

Staff Appreciation Committee and Chair (leads effort in appreciating our staff with breakfast, lunch, notes of kindness, etc.)

TKPK 5K Race Committee Representative (liaisons with City of Takoma Park for this annual city wide fundraiser in May)

Multicultural Events Planning Committee (i.e., Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, etc. You can participate in just one!)

Read-a-thon Co-Chair (This March event is one of the most significant fundraisers and fun for teachers and students while promoting enthusiasm for reading!)

4. For PBES, please check all the ONE TIME OR OCCASIONAL volunteer opportunities you have interest in (if you have time to help plan and coordinate, please note that in question 5).

Book Fair (November)

Readathon (Winter - probably mid Jan.-mid Feb. - literacy event and fundraiser)

Teacher, Staff Support and Appreciation (Spring)

Garden Clean-up or Planting

Multicultural Community events like Black History Month, Cultural Heritage Night

STEAM Night (help plan and assist with this science, tech, engineering, arts event)

Kindness, Leadership, Social Emotional Learning event (help plan and assist)

In-School Volunteer Opportunities or Events (as needed)

PBES Panther Appeal (fall)

Help us make our fall fundraising drive a success to fund all of our events and club scholarships, and our core equity, pool swimming lessons, and other essential activities this year in our school community. Please consider being a captain to help raise funds from 3rd, 4th or or 5th grade families.

Room Parent Team (flexible time supporting teacher, esp. in Dec. & June)

Readathon Coordinator/s or Planning Team (leading up to and during the monthlong event)

Book Fair Coordinator/s (leading up to and during the monthlong event)

Fish Tank Team (1-2 x/ month)

Staff Support and Appreciation Team (plan events and coordinate volunteers)

Translation and Interpretation Team (interpret or translate, esp. in Spanish or Amharic)

Equity (including social service) - advance equity goals and help meet urgent needs @PBES

GeoBowl (Coordinator/s or 1-2x/week during month of March)

Garden Team (Fall and Spring)

NAACP Representative to Parents' Council (monthly)
