The College of Sciences Student Ambassador Program is a student team of volunteers focused on public outreach to support the College of Sciences. The main purpose of the program is to assist the college in connecting with prospective students, current students, the university and the community. Ambassadors work to stimulate community interest in science-related activities and the college through participation in activities such as Packapalooza, Wolfpack Welcome Week, College Recruitment Activities, K-12 outreach and much more.
Eligibility: Candidates for Sciences Student Ambassador must be full-time students enrolled in the College of Sciences. At the time of appointment, candidates must have completed at least 24 semester hours including those in progress, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
Preference will be given to students who demonstrate leadership skills, solid personal, social, public speaking and writing skills and who will accurately and responsibly represent our college and academic programs. Enthusiasm and pride in the College is also important, as is a desire to give back to the College and community through volunteering. Each Ambassador is required to volunteer at least 6 hours a semester in Sciences Ambassador activities related to recruiting, public relations, and academic programs. This includes attending bi-weekly meetings and an Ambassador Training event.
Student Ambassadors serve for one year, Fall through Spring semester (occasionally offering summer opportunities). Students must attend the Ambassador Training/Retreat to be scheduled in the Fall.
Continuation for a second year is dependent upon meeting established standards of performance and needs of the program. Each Ambassador is required to volunteer at least 6 hours a semester to Sciences Ambassador activities. They are expected to wear their Ambassador uniforms (polo, name tag and nice pants) when functioning as an Ambassador. Polos and name tags are purchased by the College of Sciences.
The College may terminate appointments for students who do not fulfill their roles as Student Ambassadors.
Students selected as Ambassadors will have excellent opportunities to further develop personal, social, communication and leadership skills. Such development may have positive effects upon achieving intended professional career goals. Student Ambassadors are not paid for their activities.
The Student Ambassadors will help prospective students and others understand the value of academic programs in the College of Sciences at North Carolina State University. They also have the potential of promoting pride in, and understanding of, the mathematical, statistical, physical and life sciences.
