Feb. 8th Exploratory Skilled Trades Workshop Registration
Are you looking for a well-paying job in the Missoula area? Do you love working with your hands? Have you considered entering the skilled trades but have no idea where to begin? This workshop has the answers and resources you’re looking for! The YWCA's GRIT Program, Missoula College, and the Career Training Institute (CTI) in Helena are organizing a one-day exploratory workshop for women and non-binary and gender-diverse individuals to explore a potential career in trade and skill-related fields, from which they are often excluded.

WHEN: Friday, February 8th from 8:30am - 2:30pm

WHERE: Missoula College’s West Campus (2795 37th Ave, Missoula, MT 59804)

COST: FREE - including a free lunch.

WHO: This workshop is open to women and non-binary and gender-diverse people who are aged 14+. We will have a maximum of 60 spots available for participants and pre-registration is required to hold your spot!

Why enter the trades? The demand for skilled laborers is at an all-time high in western Montana, ensuring job security and high wages! In 2016, the median hourly wages for skilled trades in Montana were:
- $40.76 for electricians
- $20.33 for masons
- $23.22 for HEO (heavy equipment operation)
- $28.52 for plumbers
- $21.50 for carpenters

The event will begin with a panel of trades representatives who will speak about different trades and the avenues to entering each respective workforce. We will also hear from female panelists who will speak on their experience in these male-dominated fields. From there, participants will break into groups and rotate through 5 hands-on exploratory stations at Missoula College: welding, construction, diesel technology, machining, and HEO. Each station will involve a description of what working in the field is like, the opportunity to get a few minutes of hands-on experience, and the chance to talk to a professional in that field. Employers and representatives from all the skilled trades will be present and excited to talk to you about a future career!

We’ll also be handing out awesome trades-related door prizes, such as vouchers for merchandise from Red Ants Pants, Dovetail Workwear, and Boyce Lumber!
