2024 Planning Official Training Course Registration
The 2024 series of planning official training courses are being held on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. You are welcome to take one course, a few of the courses, or all six courses. Each course is 3-hours long and held live using video conferencing. The courses include: 
  • Course 1: Planning Overview- Wednesday, March 27, 2024 
  • Course 2: Planning Commissions- Wednesday, April 10, 2024
  • Course 3: Zoning and Rezoning- Wednesday, May 8, 2024
  • Course 4: Subdivisions- Wednesday, August 28, 2024
  • Course 5: Development Review and Variances- Wednesday, October 9, 2024
  • Course 6: Advanced Planning Tools- Wednesday, October 23, 2024 
We offer all six of the planning courses each year. We switch between offering them on Wednesday nights and Wednesday mornings. If you miss a course during this series, you can take it during the next series offered.

REQUIRED TECHNOLOGY
These courses are set up to take individually. Each participant joins from an individual computer or tablet that has a video camera and microphone. Because we are live online, reliable internet is needed as well as an updated free Zoom client downloaded on the computer or tablet. You will be unable to access all of the training materials on a cell phone or through the web-browser version of Zoom. More about how to prepare for the technology required for these courses will be sent prior to each course. 

PLAN YOUR TIME
During live video conferencing we ask participants to be fully engaged in the content and activities. This includes having video cameras on, working with course materials, taking notes, and participating individually in activities and discussions. In addition, because of the interaction required, we don't currently offer a makeup option besides taking the course again the next time it is offered.  

BECOMING A CERTIFIED ARKANSAS PLANNING OFFICIAL
Individuals that complete all six courses and a capstone home study become Certified Arkansas Planning Officials. The Capstone can be started after completing all six courses. It includes reading a book about planning, attending a Planning Commission meeting in another city, and writing a short paper about what has been learned. All requirements must be completed within three years.

Training Policies
Please read these policies carefully to ensure that they are followed during these courses.

COURSE CREDIT
To receive credit, participants must attend and fully participate in the entire course including submitting completed required assignments and activities. If a participant misses more than 1/4 of a course, he/she is unable to receive course credit.

PARTICIPATION
Participants are asked to engage positively and actively to make the most of this professional opportunity. We request that participants keep distractions to a minimum. During virtual trainings, this means keeping external distractions minimized to the greatest extent possible, keeping video cameras on, and avoiding multi-tasking. Depending on the severity of participation problems, APAC may choose to prevent a participant from receiving credit and/or future participation in APAC programs.

ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION
To ensure proper credit, participants will keep video cameras on and their faces fully viewable in their cameras. If a participant is not given credit for a training that he/she attended, proof of attendance may be required such as course materials, instructor affidavit, or other information deemed necessary. APAC determines the proper verification that is required. If attendance is not verified, circumstances could result in a participant being required to attend the training(s) in question again.

AUTHORIZATION
APAC may use the names, voices, videos, and/or images of participants in program publications, websites, advertising, social media, displays, and/or radio or television productions.
