Glenbard District 87 offers a variety of work-based learning opportunities to students and community partners. Please reference the list of options below to determine areas of interest & potential partnership.
Guest Speaker: Guest speakers bring the world of work into the classroom. Professionals from diverse fields share their career journeys, offer advice, and answer student questions. These sessions inspire students and help them see the many pathways available after graduation.
Career Day: Career Days connect students directly with employers and postsecondary representatives. Students can explore part-time and full-time opportunities, practice networking, and learn about the expectations of the modern workplace. Job fairs are an excellent way for students to make meaningful connections and take the first step toward their career goals.
Job Shadowing: Job shadowing allows students to spend time observing professionals in their workplaces. This one-day experience gives students a realistic look at specific careers and helps them better understand the education, skills, and personal qualities needed to succeed in different fields.
Internship: Internships provide students with hands-on experience in a professional setting. Students apply what they’ve learned in class to real-world projects, gaining valuable insights into daily workplace operations and expectations. Internships may be paid or unpaid, and often lead to mentorship, references, and even future job opportunities. Internships are a minimum of 30 hours.

INCubator Coach: Classroom coaches are experts in their respective business fields who teach a lesson to the class on a particular subject matter. Coaches are provided a lesson plan, presentation and other materials, which the teacher will prepare before the lesson delivery. Commitment is 1-5 timers per year depending on your availability.
INCubatoredu Mentor: Mentors support student teams as they develop and refine real business ideas through Glenbard’s INCubatorEDU program. By sharing industry expertise, asking thoughtful questions, and offering feedback, mentors help students strengthen their problem-solving, communication, and entrepreneurial skills while gaining insight into innovation, teamwork, and the startup process. Commitment is approximately 1-2 times per month, virtually or in-person.
INCubator Funding Partner: Glenbard entrepreneurship students compete for seed funding for their student-run businesses at the Final Pitch Event each May. All seed funding is provided through the Glenbard PEP Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
