What is the WNC Cheese Trail?  

The WNC Cheese Trail, a designated 501 (c)(6) non-profit association, is a network of businesses, organizations, and individuals that make and/or sell cheese or offer complementary products or services. The primary objective of the Trail is to provide support to cheesemakers, farm-based businesses, and associated businesses in Western North Carolina while connecting them with those who live, work, and play in the region. 

What is the mission of the WNC Cheese Trail?  

The WNC Cheese Trail is a cooperative effort by the region's farmstead and artisan cheese producers to promote the production and sale of WNC artisan cheeses, facilitate consumer education, and encourage tourism to the region to benefit member producers. 

Who can be an Associate Member of the WNC Cheese Trail?              

  • Businesses that distribute, sell, market and/or support the local cheese industry
  • Cheesemakers outside the membership region                                                                                       
  • Value-added producers of dairy-based foods and products such as ice cream, fluid milk, soaps etc and paired products such as charcuterie items, pickles, crackers, breads and more.

Which counties are in the membership region?  

Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Lincoln, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Union, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, and Yancey 

What are the benefits of being an Associate Member for only $100 annually? 

  • Promotion on the active WNC Cheese Trail Facebook and Instagram  pages ( over 2,700 followers on each). 
  • Listing and live link on the WNC Cheese Trail website.                                                                                                                                    
  • Placement on the WNC Cheese Trail Map (applicable to Members open to visitors).
  • A WNC Cheese Trail window sticker and brochures to be displayed at your place of business and shared with your customers. 
  • Listings in our annual holiday shopping guides (Thanksgiving, Winter Holidays, Valentine’s Day) and seasonal Farmers Market’s guides if applicable.
  • Invitation to participate in the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest with a discounted vendor rate and other Member promotional events such as pairings and tours.  Carolina Mountain Cheese Festival.      
  • Consistent communication with our membership coordinator on events and happenings that  promote our members. 
  • Strengthening our region's blossoming local businesses partnerships. 
  • Continued cross-marketing support of all things local.
