We the undersigned stand in solidarity with the people of Balochistan.
March 2026 is 78 years since Pakistan occupied Balochistan (part is also occupied by Iran); and it is one year since it arrested many of the leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti (Solidarity) Committee, BYC, as part of a brutal crackdown on the Baloch human rights movement. The arrested incde Dr Mahrang Baloch, Bebard Baloch, Beebow, Shahji Sibghatullah and Gulzadi Baloch (pictured above), who are now facing terrorism and sedition charges. Meanwhile Pakistan is seeking to arrest and detain the BYC leaders who remained outside prison.
Even before this crackdown, Baloch political activists have faced systematic targeting by the state authorities of Pakistan in Balochistan. Arrests, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killing, prolonged detention, and intimidation are recurring realities. Every day the BYC formally registers at least four cases of enforced disappearances; in reality there are many more. All this reflects a sustained drive to restrict all political activity and silence dissent. As the BYC says: "Peaceful political engagement is treated as a punishable act rather than a democratic right."
With the arrest of so many leaders, entire communities are left without representation or protection. The world must not stay silent. Call to refuse the BYC leaders and all imprisoned and disappeared activists now. Stop enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killing in Balochistan!
