The International Math Challenge (IMC) is a prestigious global mathematics competition that ignites the potential of young minds by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Since its inception in 2012 in Bangkok, IMC has grown into a worldwide platform, engaging students from over 115 countries and providing them with the opportunity to showcase their mathematical abilities on an international stage. Recognized and endorsed by the Ministry of Education of Thailand, IMC partners with leading universities to offer scholarships and recognition to top-performing participants.
Originally launched as an inter-school competition with 144 students from 10 Bangkok schools, IMC rapidly expanded, welcoming international participants by 2014. In response to the global pandemic in 2020, the competition embraced an online format, ensuring that students continued to engage in high-level math challenges. This adaptability has seen IMC reach impressive heights, with over 13,000 registrations in 2023 alone.
Divided into categories from Grades 1 to 12, the IMC caters to a wide range of age groups, offering awards such as digital certificates, medals, and scholarships. Conducted in five languages—English, Thai, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish—students have the chance to solve math problems that stimulate interest and help them apply mathematical concepts to their daily lives and future studies. IMC is more than just a competition; it's a movement that inspires a love for mathematics while nurturing future innovators and problem solvers on a global scale.
