OBEY Convention XII ::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Composer In Residence Programme
We’re thrilled to report that this year we’re offering one sonic creator the opportunity to go deep with OBEY Convention. In lead up to this year’s spring festival (May 30 - June 2, 2019), we’ll be hosting one successful applicant for a two week period in Halifax. The intention behind this programme is to foster connections with Halifax musicians, to share skills, knowledge and experience with the public, and to contribute one unique composition to our festival. This composition functions as a festival overture, unleashing a weekend of wild listening.

The Artist will receive :::

- artist fee of $2000
- budget of $700 for hiring local musicians
- travel stipend of up to $250
- 24-hour access to rehearsal space
- 24-hour access to office space at OBEY HQ
- a private room in a private home for the duration of the residency and festival
- full support in connecting with specialized musicians within Halifax
- full support in administration, tech and promotion
- high quality live recording of composition premiere

Residency requirements :::

- the artist will contribute one original composition to OBEY Convention XII during the Keynote Concert held at Paul O’Regan Hall in Halifax Central Library on Thursday May 30th, 2019.
- the composition should be roughly 15~25 minutes in length
- the artist will engage no less than two (2) local musicians to perform the composition
- the artist will host one public artist talk or workshop between May 9th - 30th 2019

This call is open to artists anywhere, including K’jipuktuk | Halifax. Applicants are welcomed to self-identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+, disabled, femme or a part of any other community that is important to their identity. Any information shared will be kept confidential. Applications will be assessed by OBEY Convention directors Andrew Patterson and Kat Shubaly. Everyone who submits will receive a response from us in due course, but please: be patient, these things take time.
