For beginner to advanced artists. A dance workshop for contemporary and classical dancers wishing to experience expanding a classical tradition into a contemporary sensibility. Paris based dancer/choreographer, Brigitte Chataignier will introduce basic principles of space, time, energy and motion in Mohiniattam and guide participants in exploring these in contemporary dance.
THE POETICS OF GESTUREWhile transmitting the fundamentals of traditional Indian dance, this day questions its contributions in contemporary creation in a trans-cultural perspective. After a specific preparation of mind and body we will go through a structured body work, with rhythmic cycles, inscribing the movement danced in its softness, its energy and its fluidity. We will explore the language of abhinaya and mudra to nourish a poetic and sensitive link, towards an individual and collective creative experimentation.
