Tips For Camping Cars - A Few Things For the Beginner
As the activity of camping becomes more popular camping grounds are starting to increase the number of spaces allotted for camping cars. Some grounds even provide AC power to accommodate the more modern RV's and camping cars. If you are new to camping there are a few things that you should take under consideration. No matter how well you think you plan, it is always advised that you create what is called a car camping checklist. There is nothing worse then driving across country to discover that you have forgot something that you really need. A smart camper is an organized camper.
Another common mistake that new campers often make is they feel compelled to take their cookware from their home. The problem with this is, they don't realize the beating that their cookware will undergo, it is advisable for you to purchase another set specifically for camping, preferably the nonstick type since cleanup is going to be an issue. Non-stick can be nice because of the easy clean up but you need to be careful of the finish. You can't clean those with any hard bristle brush or you will tear up the non-stick finish.
It's highly recommended that you do a little research about the area that you plan on camping in. You will want to know information about the wild life surrounding the area, what amenities do they offer campers, do they allow pets, is it a kid friendly area etc. Be sure you know if you are staying in an area were raccoons are prevalent. If they are then you will want to make sure you keep your food in your car. Raccoons can even tear open coolers.
Although this should go without saying - never go camping without carrying a first aid kit. It's best to have one inside your car camper and a smaller one in your backpack. It is very rare that you will even need it, however it is better to be safe than sorry. You should also carry water on you at all times. Make sure that you have some purifying water tablets just in case - it's always better to be over prepared than under prepared.
A common activity while camping is hiking. If that is on your list of activities it is recommended that you keep food on your person. You should carry something like nutritional bars since they are light and will provide you with the necessary calories needed.
