How To Make The Post Office Trip Easy
Necessary Supplies For Car Camping

When you talk about camping, overnight backcountry camping where you carry all of your gear on your back is the most common thing to come to mind. However, car camping is much more common and comprised the great majority of camping trips these days.

Typically, this means that you will be setting up your tent no more than 10 to 20 feet away from your car. Since you don't need to haul your gear in a backpack, featherlight gear is less of a focus, and often luxury and a focus on fun take priority. The absolute basics for car camping include a tent and a sleeping bag. You can improve your level of comfort by adding an inflatable mattress or collapsible cot to your packing list: either of these will help you avoid waking up with a sore back from lying on the ground!

The next step to decide is if you want to cook while camping. At it's most basic, this can mean cooking food over a campfire if it is allowed. This might mean cooking food in a heavy cast iron pan or dutch oven, or roasting hot dogs on a stick. Bringing a camp stove powered by propane or liquid fuel gives you more possibilities, particularly in areas where you cannot make a campfire. Particularly if you do all car camping, don't bother getting an expensive portable stove that is meant for backpacking: they will be much more trouble that you want. Instead, find a car camping stove for $50 to $60 that will be just about as convenient and easy to use as your home range!

Planning A Car Camping Trip

Car camping allows for families to vacation at their own pace and have the freedom to choose their destination on their own terms. Proper planning is the major factor to having a successful camping vacation. One of the advantages of camping is there are pretty much a campground in every county in every state whether it's a private, county, or state campground. For the most part, campgrounds are more available than restrooms are on the interstates. With the many destinations that are available half the fun is just planning the trip.

When choosing what type of trip and entertainment you would like, consider the four seasons. Spring is more for wildlife and blooming flowers as well as amusement parks, while summer is more suited for water parks and beaches. When deciding on your camping trip, think about what the camping trips purpose is. Private campgrounds seem to have more family oriented amenities such as pools and movie nights, whereas state and county campgrounds are more outdoor activities, hiking, boating, and fishing. When considering a campground keep these things in mind, campground style, expected weather, distance from town and campground amenities. The skills you possess will play an important role in the type campground you should choose.

A wonderful camping experience has several factors involved, some you can control and others you cannot. The weather is out of your control, yet you can keep updated on it and adjust with a little advanced planning. For the most part with enough advanced reservation time the ideal location for your campsite is easy to achieve. If you are planning on visiting a campground for the first time and booking it on the internet usually the site map on the internet of the campground is not always accurate and does not show the landscape. Call the campground and ask them to mail you a brochure and to tell you a little about the sites. However, one must remember to make several choices, due to unexpected bad weather or other unexpected circumstances that may arise.

When planning the route to your camping destination, consider what type of entertaining sites may be along the way. If your final destination is a good distance from home, an overnight stay at a campground can be a pleasant break for the kids. If you choose to do this, choose a campground that has some afternoon amenities', this way the kids have a good way to burn off some energy. If possible choose a different route for the return trip home. This will add to the excitement by giving everyone something to look forward to instead of just getting home.

No matter how your kids act on their first camping trip, trust me they will remember these camping trips with appreciation latter in life.

Tips For Camping Cars - A Few Things For the Beginner

As the activity of camping becomes more popular camping grounds are starting to increase the number of spaces allotted for camping cars. Some grounds even provide AC power to accommodate the more modern RV's and camping cars. If you are new to camping there are a few things that you should take under consideration. No matter how well you think you plan, it is always advised that you create what is called a car camping checklist. There is nothing worse then driving across country to discover that you have forgot something that you really need. A smart camper is an organized camper.

Another common mistake that new campers often make is they feel compelled to take their cookware from their home. The problem with this is, they don't realize the beating that their cookware will undergo, it is advisable for you to purchase another set specifically for camping, preferably the nonstick type since cleanup is going to be an issue. Non-stick can be nice because of the easy clean up but you need to be careful of the finish. You can't clean those with any hard bristle brush or you will tear up the non-stick finish.

It's highly recommended that you do a little research about the area that you plan on camping in. You will want to know information about the wild life surrounding the area, what amenities do they offer campers, do they allow pets, is it a kid friendly area etc. Be sure you know if you are staying in an area were raccoons are prevalent. If they are then you will want to make sure you keep your food in your car. Raccoons can even tear open coolers.

Although this should go without saying - never go camping without carrying a first aid kit. It's best to have one inside your car camper and a smaller one in your backpack. It is very rare that you will even need it, however it is better to be safe than sorry. You should also carry water on you at all times. Make sure that you have some purifying water tablets just in case - it's always better to be over prepared than under prepared.

A common activity while camping is hiking. If that is on your list of activities it is recommended that you keep food on your person. You should carry something like nutritional bars since they are light and will provide you with the necessary calories needed.

Car Camping Essential Equipment

Car camping is a great tradition and its important to have the right equipment. When you are at the camping and outdoor supply store, be sure to discriminate between equipment meant for car camping, and equipment meant for backpacking and backcountry camping. Backcountry camping means carrying everything on your back and puts a premium on size and weight. Car camping is almost completely the opposite: you will probably be camping 10 to 20 feet from your car, so there is no reason to pay a lot of money for a lightweight tent and stove unless you anticipate reusing them for backpacking in the future. Specialized backpacking camping equipment tends to be very expensive. Car camping equipment is usually surprisingly cheap since it does not need to be made with weight as a concern and because it is so popular so that many units can be manufactured at once. For car camping, it's a good idea to bring as large a tent as possible. There's no reason to get a tiny backpacking tent that you can barely sit up inside.

You will also want a camp stove with two burners. This way, you can efficiently cook much like you can at home. You may also want a camp lantern powered by gas so that you can see at night. Flashlights and headlamps are convenient to have too. When sleeping at night, it's okay to prioritize your comfort. You can buy an inflatable mattress and bring a battery powered air pump to inflate it! This is a luxury that would never be possible when camping in the backcountry, but will help you wake up without a sore back!

Car Camping - How to Organize For Family Camping

Do you take pleasure in family camping as a summer past time? That has been the case for my family for 30 plus years. We always choose the same campground every summer because of the amenities that it offers for family fun. Here are some tips that will help your family plan for your next family camping trip.

First, families need to communicate what days and where they want to camp together. Usually, family camping takes place around the same time each summer. That means folks can plan around those days for other summer activities involved by children.

Next, you need to obtain a campsite. Reserve America makes campground reservation relatively straightforward. When you go to their site input what style of camping you would want from tent camping, RV camping, group camping or day use. Then select state, zip code and or the campground with information from arrival date and length of stay. Miraculously the site searches your choice and you decide what site to keep. Be aware that you can only book six months out. That might make it difficult to obtain a spot at popular campgrounds. Best advice plan early!

In the mean time check camp and cooking equipment for repairs or replacements. A good one to two weeks out from your trip take time to set up your tent or trailer. Not only will it allow you to see if they need repair, but airing them out cannot hurt either. Check your portable stove for fuel and if it will start with piezo ignition. Generate a check list of stored equipment and take stock of what you have and what you may want. Communicating eliminates doubling up on certain camping gear when sharing the same camp site.

Lastly, plan for meals and snacks for the week. Preplanning meals help the pocket book and time that could be spent with family fun. Especially staples such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, peanut butter, jelly, salt, pepper to name a few. Check your cupboards and refrigerator for these items. Organize each meal ahead of time by placing them in plastic bags labeled. Fortunately with car camping what you omit may be purchased at a local grocery store. Finally, treasure the memories shared each summer with your family. There is nothing more enjoyable than boating and swimming during the day or laughing around the campfire each night. It puts busy schedules on the back burner for the week.

Camping and outdoor activities have been a part of my life. I appreciate the time spent with family and friends and sharing memorable experiences. Especially, creating and cooking delicious meals at our favorite campground in the great outdoors.
