Children of the World: Nurturing and Celebrating Our Youngest Global Citizens (DCPZ Educators Workshop)

Children of the World: Nurturing and Celebrating Our Youngest Global Citizens
Thursday, May 11, 2023, 5:00-7:15pm
School-Within-School, 920 F St NE, Washington, DC 20002

For almost eight years, Project Zero’s Global Children initiative has brought together a group of early childhood educators from School-Within-School (DCPS) and Poppins International Research Center in Tokyo, Japan, to explore how we might nurture global competence among children ages 3-5. Our questions are ambitious, as is our trust in the capacity of children to make sense of and learn to shape the world.

How do children develop a sense of awe and belonging regarding our common planet and our shared and diverse humanity? How do children begin to develop empathy and perspective-taking, expanding their universe of care? How do they learn to deploy the many languages of childhood to communicate across cultures, geographies, and languages with children far away? How do they become stewards of the environment and active contributors to a more just world? Our discoveries on this journey have relevance for families, leaders, and teachers of all age groups interested in constructing a more peaceful and sustainable world through meaningful education.

Join us for an evening of learning as we reflect on key moments of this journey. Engage with SWS teachers who will share their craft, lessons learned, and inspiring practical examples. Reflect with us on how--as parents, teachers, and our youngest citizens--we can advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals
