In this week’s Invitational contest, Week 74 (at GeneWeingarten.substack.com or directly here):
Write a humorous song on your choice of topics, set to any familiar tune (or even your own tune, if you’ll sing it to our readers). Because readers will be, uh, reading your lyrics, they work better at about 8 to 16 lines rather than a long line-by-line match to a song, complete with repeating choruses. For an idea of what we like, you can see last year's winners here.
EXTENDED DEADLINE THIS WEEK! Entry deadline is 9 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, June 10. But that's a hard and fast deadline. And if you're finished earlier, go ahead and send it to us.
Along with your lyrics, please include a link to the original tune you’re parodying, one we can sing along to.
If you're submitting a video that you made, make it clear that your link is to YOUR video, so we'll be sure to take a look at it! (And make sure that your video can be viewed by anyone who has the link.)
Pleeze tell us what song your lyrics are parodying; sometimes it’s totally obvious in your head and whuh? in ours, especially when we’re looking at hundreds of these things.
FORMATTING: Just write your lyrics as you'd like to see them published.
Include as many as 25 entries in the area below where it says "Your answer." It's best to copy them in from another document so you'll have them if your computer suddenly dies or something, or if you click to submit the form and something goes wonky.
Note: Your auto-reply confirmation might be missing formatting, with everything squished into one big blob of text, but it seems that it's nothing to worry about; the entries have been coming out fine on this end.
If you don't get a confirmation within a few minutes that you've sent your entry -- you've searched your email filters (e.g., Updates or Promotions in Gmail; and good ol' Spam) and there's nothing -- don't just send it over and over! Feel free to contact the Empress at myerspat@gmail.com and she can check if it got through (put something in the subject line that refers to The Invitational). She might not get back to you immediately but promises that you won't miss the deadline.
