This is the fifth year of this special leadership program for girls ages 16-19 who are interested in taking their leadership skills to the next level. Our goal is to offer high school GUTS! girls an opportunity to not just build their leadership skills, but to gain experience leading trips and mentoring girls by joining the leadership team on our elementary and middle school Summer Outdoor Adventures.
Recommended experience for participation:•Previous participation in GUTS! programming (exceptions are made on a case by case basis)•Experience and interest in the outdoors•Desire and motivation to be a leader and mentor to younger girls•Some outdoor skills (camping, backpacking, cooking, canoeing, gardening, plant identification, etc.)
Program Timeline: •Interested applicants will complete an application and interview to be accepted to the program.•Youth leaders will participate in our Youth Leadership training trip on June 12-16, location TBD depending on snow conditions. The camp will likely spend a two nights in the front-country and two nights backpacking. The training will include the basics of the GUTS! empowerment model, group facilitation, and leadership styles as well as backcountry basics such as safety, cooking, outdoor leadership, navigation, and our outdoor GUTS! curriculum!•Once accepted, youth leaders will meet as a group for one pre-trip meetings/gear check to help plan and get to know one another.•Youth leaders will volunteer as youth mentors on one or more of the GUTS! summer trips and one day of bike camp in and around Missoula).
Cost: $200 to cover training costs, food and transportation for the Youth Leadership Trips as well as food and transportation for any of the trips attended as youth mentors. Please don't hesitate to talk with us if the cost will be an issue.
