Going Deeper: Interest Identification. Before going into an IEP, it is important to prepare for the meeting. To facilitate a productive IEP, it is key that we understand our interests and how they are different from our positions. Interests are powerful; shaping and influencing our goals. Together we will explore positions and interests in the IEP. We will examine some fundamental interests that impact the IEP and how to communicate them in the meeting. Presented by David Dowling.

Strengthening Family Participation in Addressing Behavior in an IEP. Families need to feel comfortable discussing with the IEP team strategies that have worked at home in addressing their children’s behavior, and those that have not worked. This presentation is designed for families to assist with preparing for an IEP meeting where behavioral concerns will be discussed. It will provide tips to help strengthen the team discussion on behavior goals and supports needed for your child. Presented by Rafael Rodriguez.

Using Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) in the Home and Community to Support Greater Independence and Confidence. In this presentation, participants will learn how to use simple yet highly effective evidence-based practices, such as visual supports and video modeling to assist their children in the home and community so that they can become more independent and confident. A make and take session will follow the presentation where caregivers can create their own visual supports to use with their child. Free online learning modules and resources will also be shared for families to learn more strategies when they are ready. Presented by Patricia Schetter.

Advocacy and the Family: How to Advocate for Oneself and Your Child in Special Education. Learn, from a parent of a child with an IEP, ways to advocate for your family and your child while building positive relationships with all members of the IEP team. Presented by Linda Thrift.

Can You Hear Me Now? Active Listening. How difficult is to listen? Turns out it is much harder than most of us think! What can we do to become better listeners? How will this help the IEP process? This skill-based session is designed to explore what it takes to be a good listener and how that can change the course of an IEP. With a little bit of fun, together we will develop and enhance our listening skills. Presented by David Dowling.

When They Won't Go: Dealing with Your Child's School Avoidance Behaviors, Learn how to identify the reasons behind your child's school avoidance and evidenced based strategies to help your child return to school. Presented by Kristin Moore.
