This is the second volume of out Cthulhu is Hard to Spell series. The first anthology did over $39,000 on Kickstarter from over 1,000 backers.
As such, we're coming back again for a second volume!
Please read them ALL of the requirements before you submit, as they should answer any questions you have. Please do not contact me with pitches except through this form.
Here we go:
1- All final pages must be full color. (yes, monochrome color like blue or red is considered full color. Just no B/W or grayscale).2- All submissions must be an even numbered page count between 2 and 8 (2, 4, 6, or 8 pages ONLY) 3- Story must be all ages appropriate. No sex, no cursing, no excessive violence, no blood. A six year old needs to pick up this anthology and their parents need to not be offended by what they see. That being said, you can have adult mindfuckery, and style, but just nothing I mentioned above, and I mean NONE. ZERO. 4- NO PROSE. COMICS ONLY!5- you must be willing to share the shit out of the anthology when it comes to Kickstarter. If you aren't willing to share the shit out of the book, then this is not the book for you. If you do not, you will not be invited back to another book. 6- your story must be one complete thought, with a beginning, middle, and end. 7- no full bleed pages. All art must be off the corners by at least .25 inches. Any full bleed pages will not make it into the book. This means no double page spreads. 8- all borders must be white. Any other color, and you will have to redo the pages. 9- you will follow the template given or you will not get into the book. I will not spend days going through the pages to get them to line up. 10- don't be an asshole. The people in our other anthologies were the best. Let's keep that tradition going. Making things is hard, and my goal is to make cool things with awesome people. 11- Every artist and writer can only work on ONE story. Choose wisely. No doubling up. 12- You can only submit ONE idea per team. If you submit more than one I will disqualify all your submissions. 13 - Ideas must contain PUBLIC DOMAIN Lovecraft gods. Not all gods are public domain. Please do your research. When you submit, I will ask for a website which proves the god is public domain. 14 - I am only accepting a couple eight page stories, so if you submit an 8 page story, your chances of getting into the anthology are very low. 15 - if you have been in one of our last 2 anthologies, feel free to submit, but I will only accept 2-4 pages from you. If you apply for over 4 pages, you will not be accepted.
Here's the prompt:
The One ones and Elder gods have invaded the universe. Some are destroying worlds, while others just want a quiet life in the suburbs. some are benevolent, while others are malevolent.
Don't know the old ones? click here to find a list of the Great Old Ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Great_Old_Ones
People all over the galaxy are freaking out, except where they aren't. Some people are happy the world has ended. Some don't care. Still others are trying to prepare for the end. Almost everybody that goes up against the old gods dies a horrible death. However, that doesn't stop some fools from trying.
I want all sorts of stories across the tonal spectrum. If you haven't checked out my first anthology, then do so now at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/russellnohelty/cthulhu-is-hard-to-spell-a-comic-anthology-about-l
I want as many weird stories about different Old Gods as possible. You can write about Cthulhu. However, I want to hear about other gods as well. The more old gods the better. You also have a better chance of being accepted if you don't write about Cthulhu since most people will write about him.
Yes, you can write an old gods story in your own universe since you own the rights. However, for the sake of this anthology, you have to be okay with it all taking place in one multi-verse, like Flintstones meet the Jetsons. Or Scooby Doo meets the Harlem Globetrotters. They are in the same universe, but only for the sake of that thing.
What do you get?
1-full rights control. 2- creators split 10% of all royalties of the book (or all revenue seen by Wannabe Press if publishing rights are assigned)3- A chance to be in one of the most beautiful anthologies in the entire world. 4- a chance to hang out with some of the coolest creators in comics. 5- ability to print your story whenever you want, wherever you want, besides this anthology6- ability to buy copies of the book at below wholesale price.
What do we get?
1- ability to use your story in the book2- help promoting the anthology 3- meeting new cool people4- ability to assign the rights to another publisher if necessary, for the whole book, not just your story.
Now, you have the option. You can have Wannabe Press as involved as you want. You can send us drafts OR you can just submit a final story.
However, if you just submit a final story, you risk getting cut if it doesn't fit. If you come to us for editing, it won't get cut if we can help it. If it does get cut after our editing, then we will have a kill fee for you.
It's your choice though. If you want us to be hands off, that's fine with us. I trust you. However, if it's not up to snuff...it's gonna get cut. For sure. And no kill fee.
All people who get into the anthology have the ability to pitch Wannabe Press books for publication. This is the only way to get to submit to Wannabe Press on a regular basis.
I am only accepting 150-180 pages.
Story Submissions are due by June 1stWe will make a decision by July 1st Final pages will be due by December 1st
There is NO deadline extension. AT ALL. For ANY reason.
