Art in the Twenty-First Century Screening: Realms of the Real, Candice Lin, Art21
Thursday, March 5th, 2026
Doors open at 6:45pm, Screening will begin at 7:00pm

We welcome our community to join us for a screening of “Realms of the Real,” the newest episode of the 12th season of Art21’s Art in the Twenty-First Century.

Canal Projects Artist Alumni Candice Lin, is featured in this episode, alongside fellow contemporary artists Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Ragnar Kjartansson, and Tomás Saraceno.

Each of these artists combine historical research with speculative fiction to construct their out-of-this-world-but-also-from-this-world artworks. From the rustic dramaturgy of Kjartansson’s musical ensembles to Lin’s sensorial installations that use imagination and archive as a reference, the “realms” these artists build seem to hold a mirror to the banality, absurdity and the charm of this so-called life.

Lin’s section features the exhibition Lithium Sex Demons in the Factory, which was on view at Canal Projects from September 22–December 16, 2023. Shoutout to the 14th Gwangju Biennale who co-commissioned Lithium Sex Demons in the Factory and the staff at Art21 for putting together this amazing episode!

The screening will take place at Canal Projects, 351 Canal Street, in our ground level gallery, which is accessed by a small flight of stairs or an ADA accessible lift. Please reach out to us@canalprojects.org with any questions.
