Dr. Gerry Gioia is a pediatric neuropsychologist with varied yet integrated roles including clinical service, research investigation, and education/training of students. Dr. Gioia serves as the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology, director of the Safe Concussion Outcome Recovery & Education (SCORE) program for clinical and research related activities associated with pediatric mild Traumatic Brain Injury, and the director of two neurobehavioral core laboratories within Children’s National Medical Center - the Neurobehavioral Evaluation Core (NEC) of the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) and the Neurobehavioral and Psychosocial Evaluation Core (NPEC) of the General Clinical Research Center. Specific areas of interest and expertise revolve around understanding the neuropsychological outcomes of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), as well as psychometric measurement issues and test development. His research experience includes the development of novel measures of neuropsychological functioning across development and applying them to various clinical populations, including pediatric mTBI, ADHD, autism, brain tumors, epilepsy, and Neurofibromatosis.
