Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk 2018
Idea Builders Initiative (IBI) is a Non-Profit organisation dedicated to providing innovative leadership and entrepreneur development interventions targeted primary at women and girls and was established in 2003, which originally focused on women, agriculture, and rural community development. It is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as incorporated Trustees.

As part of our efforts and objectives to promote women development and create opportunities for learning and mentoring for young women in Nigeria, Idea Builders is partnering with the Vital Voices Global Partnership to lead the 2018 Women Mentoring Women Walk in Nigeria.

The Global Mentoring Walk is an opportunity to highlight the importance of women’s leadership, and to accelerate the impact of women leaders through mentoring. Organized by outstanding local leaders who are key members of the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network, the annual Mentoring Walk brings together established women leaders and emerging women leaders to walk together in their community. As they walk, they discuss their professional challenges and successes and establish a mentoring relationship in which the seasoned leader guides, advises and supports her peer.

Held on the same day in countries across the world, the Mentoring Walk unifies the Vital Voices Global Leadership Network. This year’s walk will be held Saturday, March 10th, 2018 to celebrate International Women’s Day.

This year walks will be held across Nigeria in multi-city walks including Calabar, Lagos (Island).

The theme of this year's walk is "Take a Leap 2.0: Ideas for wealth creation".
Activities for this years' Women Mentoring Women Program includes:

1. Global Mentoring Walk - Saturday, March 10th, 2018
2. "Take A Leap 2.0" Tweet Chat - Thursday, February 22nd, 2018

Annual Global Mentoring Walk, Nigeria 2018
The Global Mentoring Walk
The Annual Global Mentoring Walk convenes established women leaders and emerging women leaders to walk together in their community. As they walk, they discuss their professional/personal challenges and successes to establish a mentoring relationship, in which the established leader guides, advises and supports an emerging leader.
Being a Mentee is a valuable opportunity where a sense of direction, confidence and knowledge can be obtained through a role model, coach, friend and advisor. If a young woman wants to gain access to a greater network, develop skills, build self-confidence, enhance her professional career or have an opportunity to grow with guidance, mentoring can help her achieve it.

Remember, mentoring not only helps the Mentee achieve her goals, but it is also a great experience. Signing-up as a Mentee requires a significant commitment of time and energy, and it involves a mentor‘s time too. But it is always a new and enriching experience for both, with the added benefit of gaining something difficult to achieve in other ways.

Mentees should have a specific interest in either Civic leadership, Technology, Business, Education, Arts and Creative Arts, Fashion & Beauty, Development, or other professions. Mentees are responsible for their learning and are required to make the most of the opportunity provided to gain new knowledge.

Being a mentor is a volunteer opportunity. Whether you are a corporate professional or a housewife, you'll find that mentoring can be one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences you can have. All it takes to become a mentor is a caring nature, commitment, responsibility, and good listening skills.

Mentors should be able to assist mentees in mastering additional skills and/or gaining knowledge or abilities in specific areas, thereby enhancing the mentees‘ prospects for success.

Remember, mentoring not only helps the Mentee, but it gives the Mentor valuable experience too. Volunteering as a Mentor requires a commitment of time, resources and energy, but it is often a new and interesting experience with the added benefit of helping others.
