Thurston County Youth Action Board (YAB) Interest Form
Hello, and Welcome! :)
~~~~~What is the Youth Action Board?~~~~~
The Youth Action Board (YAB) is a group of passionate young people aged 12-24 who have or are experiencing homelessness or housing instability. It's a space created by the people who make up the board with no barriers and no judgments, where young people can come together and share their ideas on what needs to change about the homeless systems in place.
The Youth Action Board's focus and purpose is to improve housing related programs, to support youth development and wellness, and provide professional and personal learning and healing opportunities by
prioritizing
youth's experience and wisdom in decision-making, planning and execution of youth-focused housing programs, projects and issues within our community.
Members of the Thurston County Youth Action Board have a significant impact on improvements to and developing ideas for improving systems that support youth who have encountered unstable living situations.
~~~~~What is the ACI, and how is the Youth Action Board involved?~~~~~
The Anchor Community Initiative (ACI) is a program put out by Away Home Washington to end youth/young adult homelessness. Thurston county is now one of the "Anchor Communities" part of this initiative. We are in cohort 2, which means we haven't been a part of this initiative for very long.
The YAB's role is essential. This is where feedback is collected, voted on and discussed. It gets brought to the improvement team which is made up of various providers in the community who are a part of/support healthy youth development and/or are involved in housing-related services. YAB members can be a part of these meetings to help vote on and decide what happens and to ensure that youth/young adult voice is represented in every decision making process along the way.
Members are paid a stipend of $20/hour per meeting with the potential for other compensated opportunities:)
