2025 MAE ELIZABETH KAUFMAN AND THERESA COFFMAN SCHOLARSHIP

All information requested for this application must be completed prior to submission.  Applications must be postmarked by April 30th.  Applications postmarked after April 30th will not be considered.

Any applicant who knowingly misrepresents information and is awarded a scholarship will refund the awarded amount and become ineligible for any future financial support from the Louisville Branch NAACP.

These scholarships are available for students enrolled in a full-time curriculum at a duly accredited institution in a course of study leading directly to one of the following degrees:

1.         The degree of M.D. or its equivalent,

2.         The degree of J.D. or its equivalent, or

3.         The degree of Doctor of Divinity, or its equivalent.

Additional criteria include:

1.         Applicant must be a legal resident of the Louisville area

2.         No scholarship will be awarded to any person who has or will have attained the age of 30 years prior to the beginning of his/her first year of study towards the degree

 3.         Recipient will be under a moral obligation to assist disadvantaged and deprived persons in his/her community by means of the exercise of the skills and talents acquired by the recipient through his/her scholarship

Application Submission Checklist

In addition to the above-required areas of professional pursuit, the following items are required for applications to be considered.

·       A completed Louisville Branch NAACP Scholarship application form

·       A current and official transcript of all postsecondary work

·       A letter of acceptance from the college/university the applicant is attending

·       A nonreturnable photograph (no larger than 4”x 6” with name on the back)

·       An essay of a maximum 600 words entitled:


Describe how you hope to address challenges within your profession related to equity and inclusion after you complete your professional preparation.”
