STEPP Faculty Partner Form
Grand Challenges and EPI are excited to continue to foster faculty-student relationships and reflection on pedagogical practices through STEPP (Student Teacher Engaged Pedagogical Partnership). By filling out this form, we will partner you with a student for the Fall 2022 semester and you commit to meeting weekly with your student partner and to providing them with 0.5 units of independent research credit. Please submit by May 17, 2021. We will connect you and your student partner soon after and conduct an orientation for both of you a week before the start of the semester. Overview of STEPP
Students and faculty members partner in STEPP to provide an opportunity for faculty to reflect on their teaching, receive feedback from a student not in their course, and work collaboratively with a partner to meet their teaching goals. Together, the student and faculty member will develop areas for the student partner to focus on during the semester. Student partners will observe a class throughout the semester, take detailed notes during class, and meet weekly with their faculty partner to communicate their candid and confidential observations. As faculty develop new ways to teach, having input and reflections from a student partner can be especially valuable. Ultimately, the program’s aim is affirmative — to highlight what you do well and support you in expanding your positive teaching practices.

Please note the following: 1) If this class is being team-taught, all professors must be okay with the student partner observing. 2) If this class has a lab, the student partner is not required to attend both the lecture and the lab every week, so please note your preference. 3) Intensives and other type courses are allowed, and non-traditional partnerships (such as working with a research librarian) are also encouraged for this semester, as long as it stays true to the theme of student-teacher partnership

Please note: in recruiting student partners, we strive to bring new, unheard voices and perspectives into pedagogical discussions. Students who have felt undeserved by, felt unwelcome in, or struggled through the standard classroom are very likely to provide different perspectives and recommendations from those who have found higher education welcoming, supportive, and easily navigable. If you desire to select a student partner, please consider this intention. Additionally, please make sure your selection has AGREED to be your student partner before including their name and email below.
