TED Translators | Apply to attend TED2020!
Next spring, we will host a group of our most prolific and talented TED Translators at the TED2020 conference in Vancouver, BC. Selected applicants will receive a TED Translators Pass to the annual flagship event; this pass covers the conference fee, as well as travel and accommodation expenses (a $15,000 value!). TED2020 will run from April 20-24, 2020, but all accepted translators are required to attend pre-conference activities that begin on April 18. Please note that in order to be eligible for a TED Translators Pass, you must be a TED Translator with at least one set of published subtitles.

The theme of TED2020 is "Uncharted." Under this banner, we’ll journey into unmapped territory as we explore our uncertain future: We’ll survey the potential windfalls and dangers of cutting-edge technologies; recent significant scientific developments; our perpetually in-flux political dynamics and contingencies; and the oceanic possibilities that arise when we individually and collectively ask ourselves which ideas are truly worth fighting and living for. We look forward to you joining us!

The application period will close on December 9, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. EST. Selected translators will be informed before January 31, 2020.

The application:

To help us get to know you better, the TED2020 application includes a video component. Every applicant who wishes to be considered for a TED Translators Pass is encouraged to submit a short video of themselves answering the question below. (You may not use a video you recorded for a previous application.)

In 30 seconds or less, why do you want to attend TED2020? And why should we select you?

A bonus for your video short: Show us your favorite place in your town or city, and tell us why you like it most.

Video instructions:

Please film yourself delivering your answer in English. In total, your video submission should be no more than 30 seconds (or no more than 45 seconds if you include the bonus prompt). Upload your video to Vimeo or YouTube, and title it like this: “[Your name] TED2020 Application". (So, for example: “Jane Doe TED2020 Application".)

We encourage you to make your video "unlisted." This way, it will not appear in search results but can be viewed when you share the link. To learn more about how to change video privacy settings, check out this YouTube guide: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/157177?hl=en&co=GENIE.

If you have any questions or are unable to prepare a video, feel free to email us at translate@ted.com.

Thank you, and good luck!
