From SLB Radio's Youth Media Center comes a new audio-first literary magazine. We are seeking applications from 6th through 12th graders in the greater Pittsburgh area to join our founding editorial board.
As a member of the magazine's first editorial board, you will have a considerable amount of influence over the direction of this magazine, including naming it.
What does audio-first mean? We will be publishing work from middle and high schoolers that is meant to be heard, not read. A piece being chosen for publication is only the first step. Student producers will work with the writer to develop a plan: what is the line delivery for this dialogue, what sort of music will set or complicate the tone, how can sound flesh out the environment of the piece in a way that pure text cannot?
No experience is necessary, but if you have a passion for any of the following, you might already be a good fit for our team: writing, theater, film, podcasts, radio, music, visual art, etc.
What are the duties of an editorial board member? The editorial board will meet on Mondays during the school year at 4:30 pm in SLB Radio's Youth Media Center, co-located on the lower level of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh (10 Children's Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15212).
- Editorial board members must attend at least one in-person meeting a month.
- Editorial board members must check their email regularly.
- Editorial board members must participate in at least one part of the production process.
- Editorial board members must be registered by a parent or guardian to participate in SLB Radio's programming. Registration is free.
- Editorial board members must adhere to SLB Radio's Community Standards and AI policy.
What if I can't fulfill all of those requirements? If you can't fulfill all the requirements, but are still interested in participating, fill out this application anyway. There are places in the application to indicate you can't fully participate, and we will reach out to you to discuss other ways you can work with the magazine.
What's in it for me? In addition to having the opportunity to create unique and meaningful work, editorial board members are eligible to receive a stipend for their involvement with the literary magazine.
When is the application due? As we get up and running, we will accept rolling applications to join our editorial board.
